ABW recommends that every school has in place a range of reporting mechanisms to enable all staff and young people to be able to access a means to report concerns about bullying in a way that is safe.
This would include:
- Indirect methods e.g. notes/worry box
- Direct methods – open door/counsellors room/drop ins
- Advertising external sources of support and advice for staff, parents and young people where they could also discuss their concerns about bullying e.g. Childline and Family Lives
- Reporting mechanisms should be non-stigmatising and non-exposing.
Reports need to be recorded and monitored so that vulnerable students are tracked.
